Disclosed is a cord for reinforcing a rubber article such as a tire. A cord (100) includes: a core strand (120) having a twisted layer structure formed by winding a plurality of filaments; a plurality of sheath strands (130) wound around the core strand (120), the sheath strands having a twisted layer structure formed by winding a plurality of filaments; and a winding (110) applied around at least one of the sheath strands (130) and the core strand (120), the winding (110) creating a gap (140) between the core strand (120) and the at least one sheath strand (130). Furthermore, a tire comprising such a cord (100) is disclosed.
