The invention relates to a method for controlling a hybrid powertrain (10) for a motor vehicle, the hybrid powertrain (10) comprising an internal combustion engine (12), an electric machine (14), a hybrid transmission (16) and drive wheels, the hybrid transmission (16) having several shift units (S1; s2; (S3); s4), by means of which at least a first gear stage (G1c), a second gear stage (G2) and a third gear stage (G4) can occur, the transmission ratio between the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine (12) and the output shaft (AW) of the hybrid transmission continuously decreasing from the first gear stage (G1c) via the second gear stage (G2) to the third gear stage (G3), and the transmission ratio between the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine (12) and the output shaft (AW) of the hybrid transmission continuously decreasing from the first gear stage (G1c) via the third gear stage (G3) via the second gear stage (G2) to the third gear stage (G4). When operating in such a way that both the internal combustion engine (12) and the electric machine (14) introduce a drive torque for driving the drive wheel into the hybrid transmission, a third limit torque (G3R) for the third gear (G3) is set in the first mode and a second limit torque (G2H) for the second gear (G2) is set in the second mode, the maximum third limit torque (G3Rm) of the first mode is greater than the maximum second limit torque (G2Hm) of the second mode.
