The invention provides a hand strap disinfection device and a hand strap disinfection method of a passenger conveyor, which can efficiently disinfect a hand strap while inhibiting degradation of the hand strap. The hand strap disinfection device is provided with a first light source, the first light source is arranged on a lifting plate and irradiates ultraviolet rays towards a hand strap, the lifting plate is arranged near an entrance part, and the entrance part is an entrance and exit of the hand strap which circularly moves in linkage with operation of a passenger conveyor.
