The present disclosure relates to a roof rail system (1) for arrangement on a roof of a vehicle (2), comprising a first roof rail (3) comprising a first front attachment structure (4), a first rear attachment structure (5) and a first rail rod (6) extending from the first front attachment structure (4) to the first rear attachment structure (5), the first rail rod (6) having a first length (L1); a second roof rail (7) comprising a second front attachment structure (8), a second rear attachment structure (9) and a second rail rod (10) extending from the second front attachment structure (8) to the second rear attachment structure (9), the second rail rod (10) having a second length (L2), in which the first rail rod (6) is attached to the first front attachment structure (4) via a first hinge (11), and in which the second rail rod (6) is attached to the second front attachment structure (4) via a second hinge (11). The first longitudinal beam rod (6) is attached to the first rear attachment structure (5) via a first lock (12); and wherein the second stringer rod (10) is attached to the second rear attachment structure (9) via a second hinge (13), and wherein the second stringer rod (10) is attached to the second front attachment structure (8) via a second lock (14); wherein a first length (L1) of the first stringer rod (6) is equal to a first separation distance (L3) between a first hinge (11) of the first front attachment structure (4) and a second lock (14) of the second front attachment structure (8), and a second length (L2) of the second stringer rod (10) is equal to a second separation distance (L4) between a second hinge (13) of the second rear attachment structure (9) and a first lock (14) of the first rear attachment structure (5); wherein the first hinge (11) and the second hinge (13) are arranged for rotating the first stringer rod (6) and the second stringer rod (10) in a horizontal plane, respectively, so as to be attached to the second front attachment structure (8) and the first rear attachment structure (5); wherein the first hinge (11) and the second hinge (13) are further arranged to rotate the first stringer bar (6) and the second stringer bar (10) by 90 degrees about a first longitudinal axis (15) of the first stringer bar (6) and about a second longitudinal axis (16) of the second stringer bar (10), respectively. The present disclosure also relates to a method for installing a roof rail system (1).
