A pneumatic elevator system comprises a hoistway, a pneumatic compartment, an air extractor, a switch element and an emergency operation switch, the pneumatic compartment is located in the hoistway, the air extractor is arranged in the hoistway, and when the air extractor is controlled to be started, air is extracted from the space of the hoistway above the pneumatic compartment, so that the pneumatic compartment moves upwards; the switch element is electrically connected with the air extractor, the switch element can be switched on or switched off, the air extractor is started when the switch element is switched on, and the air extractor stops exhausting air when the switch element is switched off; the emergency operation switch is arranged in the pneumatic carriage, electrically connected with the switch element and controlled by a user so that the switch element can be switched on or switched off. Therefore, when a user is trapped in the pneumatic carriage, the user can operate the emergency operation switch for self rescue.
