The invention discloses a maintenance safety protection method for a charging rail of an energy storage type tramcar, which is suitable for maintenance of the charging rail in a field section and comprises the following steps: after a vehicle enters the field section and an energy storage unit is completely discharged, moving a roof charging rail to a recovery position; when the car roof charging rail moves away to the recovery position, an additional negative pole branch is formed, so that the car roof charging rail is communicated with the steel rail (negative pole). The invention further discloses an overhaul safety protection device for the charging rail of the tramcar. According to the method and the device provided by the invention, the car roof charging rail is communicated with the steel rail (negative pole) by forming an additional negative pole branch when the car roof charging rail is moved to the recovery position, so that the charging rail can be directly connected with the steel rail during maintenance; the situation of wrong charging caused by the fact that the rail-ground transition impedance or the internal resistance of the energy storage element cannot be recognized is avoided, and potential safety hazards are completely eradicated.
