The invention relates to a dual-redundancy brake-by-wire system and method, and the system comprises a hydraulic source module which comprises a brake master cylinder assembly with two working cavities, and a first brake auxiliary cylinder assembly and a second auxiliary cylinder assembly which are provided with one working cavity, and are driven by respective motors to achieve the pressure building of the working cavities; the four-wheel brake module comprises two groups of brake wheel cylinders; the hydraulic source switching module comprises a switching electromagnetic valve and is used for connecting the hydraulic source module and the four-wheel braking module; the control module comprises a pressure sensor used for collecting pressure in the hydraulic pipelines and the working cavity, a motor rotating speed sensor used for collecting motor rotating speed signals, and a vehicle control unit which is in signal connection with the pressure sensor, the motor rotating speed sensor, the electromagnetic valves and the motors and is used for conducting hydraulic source switching control. Normal braking, redundant braking or dual-redundant braking is achieved. The problem that an existing brake-by-wire scheme cannot meet the braking requirement of the pilotless automobile is solved.
