The invention relates to a method for controlling a steer-by-wire system (1) of a road vehicle, in which the steer-by-wire system (1) comprises a wheel actuator (5) for turning steerable wheels (4), a steering wheel actuator (10) for applying a feedback torque to a steering wheel (3), the method comprises the steps of: calculating the feedback torque by modifying a base steering torque as a function of a longitudinal acceleration and/or a lateral acceleration measured by a vehicle sensor; the calculated feedback torque is sent to a steering wheel actuator (10) in order to provide feedback to the driver on the steering wheel (3).
