Lift trucks designed with a common chassis may include ergonomic operator compartments, wheels, lift assemblies, power devices, energy sources, steering devices, seats, and counterweight components. The modular chassis design can adapt to different formation factors and different energy sources so as to adapt to lift trucks with different final purposes; comprising a low floor, seat-side steering and/or operator-inaccessible compartments for highly reliable components, and operator-accessible components for components that may require more frequent or convenient access. In one embodiment, the energy source is a lithium ion battery pack located in a compartment that is not accessible to an operator under a low, spacious floor that facilitates easy access and exit to the operator compartment as well as ergonomic operation of the operator.
