According to at least one embodiment, the present disclosure provides an electronic brake system and a control method thereof, the electronic brake system including: a main master cylinder including a main body, a main piston accommodated to be movable in the main body, a main chamber defined in the main body and connected with at least one wheel brake, a motor generating a rotational force, and a power conversion unit, one side of which is connected to the motor and the other side of which is connected to the primary piston, and which converts rotational motion of the motor into linear motion, the primary master cylinder being configured to generate hydraulic pressure by movement of the primary piston; a motor position sensor provided to sense a rotation distance of the motor; and a brake controller configured to perform control to move the primary piston to a preset initial position by calculating a displacement of the primary piston based on a rotation distance of the motor and adjusting an amount of current supplied to the motor. The electronic brake system has an effect of being capable of improving a brake response speed by reducing a dead stroke at the time of actuator operation.
