The invention relates to a method for braking a vehicle for transporting passengers, comprising at least the following steps: checking whether a triggering criterion for braking the vehicle for transporting passengers is present; -if the trigger criterion is met, causing a control brake pulse (BI) by brief, pulsed braking of the vehicle in such a way that an occupant of the vehicle perceives the brief braking of the vehicle, and then-immediately introducing a braking phase (B), in which the braking pulse (BI) is controlled by the brief, pulsed braking of the vehicle in such a way that the occupant of the vehicle perceives the brief braking of the vehicle, the vehicle is braked in a braking phase (B) in at least two partial braking regions (TBi) by means of a time-varying actual self-deceleration (zIst1) via a braking system, each partial braking region (TBi) extending in a partial braking interval (dti), the partial braking regions (TBi) transitioning to each other without an abrupt change in the actual self-deceleration (zIst1), and the actual self-deceleration (zIst1) changes in the partial braking interval (dti). The actual self-deceleration (zIst1) is continuously varied in one of the partial braking regions (TBi) within the respective partial braking interval (dti) such that a different actual jerk (jIsti) occurs in each partial braking region (TBi), and wherein the actual jerk (jIsti) exhibits a decreasing characteristic over at least some of the partial braking regions (TBi) of the braking phase (B), and wherein the actual self-deceleration (zIst1) is continuously varied in one of the partial braking regions (TBi) within the respective partial braking interval (dti) in such a way that a different actual jerk (jIsti) occurs in each partial braking region (TBi).
