Systems and methods are provided for selective derating of self-propelled work vehicle parameters based on operating modes. The self-propelled work vehicle includes a work accessory and at least left and right ground engaging units driven by respective first and second drivelines. Upon determining a transition from a first mode of operation to a second mode of operation (e.g., a creep mode), the method includes selectively derating at least a portion of the driveline speed command corresponding to propulsion of the work vehicle (an average of left and right track speeds), regardless of portions in the driveline speed command corresponding to steering (e.g., differences between track speeds). The derating value is optionally applied only to a propulsion command that produces a forward motion and not to a reverse motion. Individual (non-zero) derating settings are optionally provided for reverse and/or steering functions. A derating function is optionally implemented upon detection of a particular accessory type (e.g., a bulldozer) or associated working condition.
