The present disclosure provides an optical system including a display including an active display area configured to emit an image. The active display area includes a predetermined area that includes a display center. A windshield of a vehicle includes an embedded reflective polarizer. The reflective polarizer reflects from about 20% to about 40% of incident light polarized in a first direction and transmits at least 60% of the incident light polarized in a second direction. The reflective polarizer receives the image emitted by the active display area and reflects a portion toward the eye. For at least one first position within the predetermined region, the emission image includes an image cone having emission center image rays emitted from the first position. When incident in an incident plane on the windshield, the emission center image ray is polarized in a third direction. The first direction and the third direction are substantially parallel to the plane of incidence.
