The present disclosure provides regenerative braking during communication disruption. A brake control system includes a regenerative braking controller, a friction braking controller, and a master controller. The regenerative braking controller reduces regenerative braking in response to an absence of expected communication between the master controller and the regenerative braking controller. The master controller commands the friction brake controller to increase the friction brake in response to detecting the decrease in regenerative braking.
