The invention relates to the related technical field of engineering machinery, in particular to a hybrid power system of a crane and a control method. The power system comprises a fuel oil power subsystem and an electric power subsystem which are connected in parallel, and the two sets of power subsystems can provide power for a crane operation assembly. The fuel oil power subsystem is connected with a first operation assembly of the crane and used for providing power for the operation assembly of the crane in a first operation working condition, and the electric power subsystem is connected with a second operation assembly of the crane and used for providing power for the operation assembly of the crane in a second operation working condition. Thus, fuel oil consumption, emission and pollution are reduced by reducing the working condition of fuel oil energy supply, the requirement for the electric capacity of a battery is not high due to the fact that only power for part of the working condition needs to be provided through electric power, and the small-capacity battery can be used, so that the electricity utilization safety of engineering machinery is guaranteed, and cost is saved.
