The invention relates to a method for fastening a component to a shaft wall (18) of an elevator system (2), in particular a rail support (20) to be fastened to the shaft wall (18), which rail support (20) is suitable for fastening a guide rail (14, 16) in the interior of the elevator system (2), the component forming a contact surface (34) for planar fastening of the component to the shaft wall (18), the method comprises the following method steps: pre-fixing the component to the shaft wall by means of a self-adhesive element (30, 30 ') to be or already mounted on a first portion (52) of the contact surface (34); and applying an adhesive layer provided for curing to the second portion (52) of the contact surface (34), which adhesive layer is arranged between the contact surface (34) of the component and the fixing area of the shaft wall (18) when the component is in a state of being fixed to the shaft wall (18). The invention further relates to an elevator system (2), comprising a shaft wall (18) and a component which is fastened to the shaft wall (18) and which is designed in particular as a rail support (20) for fastening guide rails (14, 16) of the elevator system (2), said component forming a contact surface (34) for fastening the component to the shaft wall (18) in a planar manner, and said contact surface (34) having two parts, in a state in which the component is fixed to the shaft wall (18), a self-adhesive element (30, 30 ') is arranged in a first portion (52) of the contact surface (34) between the contact surface (34) and a fixing region of the shaft wall (18), and an adhesive layer is arranged in a second portion (52) of the contact surface (34).
