A drive-by-wire automobile steering system comprises a mechanical electric steering device composed of two driving motors and a set of mechanical steering mechanism, and the two driving motors can simultaneously or independently provide operation power for the mechanical steering mechanism under the control of a main controller in the drive-by-wire automobile steering system. The mechanical steering mechanism receives operation power provided by at least one driving motor to complete operation actions, and therefore steering of the automatic driving automobile is achieved. According to the mechanical electric steering device with the dual-driving motor redundancy design, the drive-by-wire automobile steering system which can ensure that steering can be controlled as required even if one driving motor breaks down and the driving safety of the self-driving automobile is ensured is provided for the self-driving automobile, and the self-driving steering requirement of the self-driving automobile is met; and a mechanical steering mechanism in the mechanical electric steering device can have various forms, and is simple in structure, reliable in work, convenient to maintain and high in reliability and applicability.
