The invention relates to a combined braking system and method for an unmanned vehicle. The system comprises a sensing and planning module, a mechanical braking system, a motor braking system and a control system. The sensing and planning module is used for sensing and analyzing the current driving environment and issuing an enable signal and an expected braking degree signal to the control system; the control system receives an enable signal and an expected braking degree signal, determines a braking mode based on the expected braking degree signal, and sends a control instruction to the mechanical braking system and the motor braking system according to the braking mode; and the mechanical braking system and the motor braking system start braking on a travelling crane according to the control instruction.
