The invention relates to a switching device (30) comprising at least one main contactor (34); an actuator (40) configured to enable the main contactor (34) to generate a state change from a first state to a second state against the biasing force generated by the spring (42), the actuator (40) being supplied with power by a control signal (Sc) equal to the first potential (S1) to cause the main contactor (34) to generate a state change, the main contactor (34) is then held in the second state by a second potential (S2) equal to or less than the first potential (S1). According to the invention, the switching device (30) comprises at least one current sensor (48), which is designed to actuate the control signal (Sc) to increase to a third potential (S3), which is higher than the second potential (S2), if the current through the main contactor (34) is greater than or equal to a given operating threshold value, in order to avoid a non-timely change in state of the main contactor. The switching device (30) comprises a resettable protection system to control the time the control signal (Sc) remains at the third potential.
