A user interface (100) for controlling a function of a vehicle is provided. The user interface comprises: a manual input device (105, 107a-c, 109a-c) for generating a user input signal upon manual actuation by a user; and one or more proximity sensors (103a-f) arranged in proximity to the manual input device (105, 107a-c, 109a-c), where each proximity sensor (103a-f) is configured to generate a proximity sensor signal when a hand is present in proximity to the proximity sensor (103a-f). Furthermore, the user interface (100) comprises processing circuitry (101) for controlling the function of the vehicle in accordance with the user input signal and one or more proximity sensor signals.
