A system for transferring an elevator car from a first hoistway to a second hoistway, the system comprising: a first propulsion system configured to move the first elevator car through the first hoistway; a transfer bracket configured to move the first elevator car and the first propulsion system from the first hoistway through the transfer station to the second hoistway, the transfer bracket including an elevator car receiving slot to receive the first elevator car and the first propulsion system when the elevator car receiving slot is aligned with the first hoistway, wherein the first propulsion system is configured to move the first elevator car and the first propulsion system from the elevator system within the first elevator shaft onto the transfer carriage to the vehicle workstation.
