The gantry crane system comprises a plurality of gantry cranes, any gantry crane comprises a gantry cross beam and an electric hoist, and the electric hoist comprises a lifting hook and a lifting belt. The method comprises the steps that a plurality of lifting hooks of a gantry crane system are connected with the same to-be-installed GIL unit; a plurality of lifting belts of the gantry crane system synchronously lift lifting hooks, and a plurality of electric hoists of the gantry crane system synchronously slide on corresponding electric hoist rails, so that the GIL unit to be mounted is coaxial with the mounted GIL unit; the GIL unit to be installed is moved in the extending direction of the installed GIL unit, so that the port to be connected of the GIL unit to be installed is attached to the port to be connected of the installed GIL unit; and connecting the to-be-connected port of the to-be-installed GIL unit with the to-be-connected port of the installed GIL unit so as to complete the installation of the to-be-installed GIL unit.
