The present disclosure provides a system for preventing vehicle key fob relay attacks. A vehicle subscribing to an authentication system includes: a wireless transceiver; and a controller configured to, in response to receiving a wireless signal via the wireless transceiver from a device identified as a key fob, obtain historical data reflecting a time and location of the key fob associated with the vehicle detected via one or more entities subscribing to the authentication system, calculating a soundness value using the historical data such that a detected position farther from the vehicle position at a time prior to a current time produces a smaller soundness value and a detected position closer to the vehicle position at substantially the same time prior to the current time produces a larger soundness value, a soundness threshold is calculated using at least one of the current time and the vehicle location, and a door of the vehicle is unlocked in response to the soundness value being greater than the soundness threshold.
