A method of controlling a hybrid electric vehicle including an engine and a first electric machine connected to main driving wheels and a second electric machine connected to auxiliary driving wheels includes: determining a required torque; determining a first torque continuously output by the second motor based on the required torque and the vehicle speed in response to the fact that the preset condition is met; determining a second torque discontinuously output by the second motor based on a state of an engine clutch disposed between the engine and the first motor, a state of the transmission, or the required torque to compensate for the acceleration loss in a case where the acceleration loss occurs; a final torque of the second electric machine is determined based on the first torque and the second torque.
