A wireless sensor array for occupancy detection in a passenger vehicle is provided. An occupancy detection system includes a master controller for a series of coupled receivers including a reader module and a transponder module in close contact with each other. The reader module is capable of both wirelessly transmitting power to and receiving signals from the transponder module, where the transponder module transmits signals based on information received from the snap sensor, the occupancy sensor, or both. A transponder module disposed in each seat of the vehicle will obtain a locking/unlocking signal from the snap and send this information back to the main controller through the reader module. The master controller will interface with the vehicle to provide a user interface notification.
