The invention belongs to the technical field of expressway traffic control, and particularly relates to an expressway traffic flow detection device and a shunting management method. The expressway traffic flow detection device comprises a plurality of vehicle detection stations arranged along an expressway; the designated position behind the starting point of each road section serves as a detection node, and a vehicle detection station is arranged at each detection node; the vehicle detection station comprises a door-shaped support and a camera, and the camera and a vehicle speed detector point downwards in the vertical direction and are used for counting the number of vehicles on all lanes in the road section and collecting the speed of the vehicles passing through the detection node respectively. The number of vehicles is counted through the camera, and the door-shaped support does not need to damage the road surface in the construction process; the method has three traffic flow management methods, namely a flow dredging method, a flow limiting method and a speed limiting method, and matched vehicle speed and traffic flow control can be carried out according to actual needs, so that the balance of highway transportation pressure is ensured, and the accident rate is reduced.
