The invention relates to a braking system of a rail wagon. The rail wagon comprises a locomotive for traction and at least one vehicle for carrying cargoes. The brake system comprises an electric brake cylinder arranged on the vehicle and used for converting electric energy into mechanical energy to brake the vehicle; the vehicle control device is arranged on the vehicle, electrically connected with the electric brake cylinder and used for controlling the electric brake cylinder to brake according to the brake control instruction; the main control device is arranged on the locomotive, electrically connected with the vehicle control device and used for sending a brake control instruction to the vehicle control device; the power supply device is arranged on the locomotive, is electrically connected with the electric brake cylinder and the vehicle control device, and is used for supplying power to each electric device of the locomotive; and the storage battery is arranged on the vehicle, electrically connected with the electric brake cylinder, the vehicle control device and the power supply device and used for charging by utilizing the power supply signal output by the power supply device and supplying power to the electric brake cylinder according to the brake instruction of the vehicle control device. Reliable braking of the electric brake cylinder can be guaranteed, and meanwhile consumption of electric energy is reduced.
