A backup power system according to the present disclosure comprises a battery, a charging circuit, an electricity storage unit, a first load, a second load, and a control unit that controls the charging circuit. The control unit increases the input current of the charging circuit at a first rate of change in response to a start-up signal. Upon detecting that the charging voltage of the electricity storage unit has risen to a first voltage at which the first load can be driven, the control unit controls the charging circuit so that the input current of the charging circuit is increased at a second rate of change lower than the first rate of change. The charging circuit is controlled by the control unit so that the input current increases at the second rate of change, and the charging voltage of the electricity storage unit rises to a second voltage at which both the first load and the second load can be driven.
