The energy storage device (100) comprises a plurality of round cells (120) for electrochemical storage of energy and multiple retaining frames (200) for retaining the round cells (120). The round cells (120) are secured to opposing retaining frames (200) by their ends. Cell connectors (220) are provided on the retaining frames (200), which electrically contact the round cells (120) arranged between the retaining frames (200) from the outer sides (A). The invention also relates to a motor vehicle and to a method for producing the energy storage device (100).
