The invention relates to a method for correlating position and profile measurements of an object manipulated by a lifting instrument. The method is implemented in a central control unit configured for controlling the lifting instrument. The method includes receiving position sensor data (301) from at least one position sensor, the sensor configured to perform a position measurement of the lifting instrument within the lifting area. A speed of the lifting instrument is determined (303) and the position of the object to be manipulated is refined based on position data received from the position sensor. The method further includes associating (305) the refined position and contour data to calculate an object size.
