The invention relates to a multi-mode communication method, a train tail host and a train tail locomotive station. The multi-mode communication method comprises the following steps that a digital talkback communication link is established between the train tail host and the train tail locomotive station; the train tail host sends own public network address information to a first system server, and the train tail locomotive station sends own public network address information to the first system server; the train tail host sends a first query request to the first system server; the first system server sends public network address information of the train tail locomotive station corresponding to the train tail host to the train tail host according to the first query request; and the train tail host initiates a public network communication link establishment request with the corresponding train tail locomotive station according to the public network address information of the corresponding train tail locomotive station, so that the train tail host establishes a public network communication link with the corresponding train tail locomotive station. The train tail host and the train tail locomotive station can stably perform data communication in two mutually redundant communication modes, so that the communication reliability and success rate between the train tail host and the train tail locomotive station are improved.
