A method and system for navigating traffic for an autonomously controllable vehicle (10). The system is operated by detecting at least one target vehicle (12) within a traffic environment (22) with at least one sensor (16) disposed on a primary vehicle (10). The system (15) obtains information with a plurality of sensors (16) disposed on the primary vehicle (10) of the traffic environment and the at least target vehicle (12) and predicts a maneuver of the at least one target vehicle (12) with a controller disposed on the primary vehicle (10) for a future time based on the information obtained relating to the traffic environment (22) and the at least one target vehicle (12). The system (15) further generates a recommended path for the primary vehicle (10) with the controller (25) that avoids conflicts with a future position of the at least one target vehicle (12) based on predicted maneuvers of the at least one target vehicle (12).
