The invention provides an installation method of a main beam assembly of a telescopic quay crane and the telescopic quay crane. The installation method of the main beam assembly comprises the steps that a frame-shaped first supporting structure is arranged on the outer side of a main beam in a sleeving mode; the main beam and the first supporting structure are tied through a flexible tying structure, and the flexible tying structure at least can provide flexible connection between the main beam and the first supporting structure in the length direction of the main beam; and the tied main beam assembly is hoisted to a door frame structure of the telescopic quay crane. The main beam assembly is temporarily reinforced through the flexible tying structure, impact loads caused by asynchronous movement speeds of lifting points can be buffered, and the connection reliability between the main beam and the seaside supporting structure is improved.
