The embodiment of the invention relates to a system-level fault indicator in an autonomous vehicle. Devices, systems, and methods are described for monitoring operation and resilience of automated driving system components using system level fault indicators. One example of a method for diagnosing a fault in an autonomous vehicle component includes: receiving an electrical signal from an electrical subassembly of the component; receiving a message from an electronic sub-component of the component; and determining an operational state of the component based on the electrical signal and the message.
