The invention relates to a safety protection device of hoisting equipment, in particular to a protection device and protection method for preventing a crane hook from being laterally pulled and obliquely dragged. The protection device comprises an overhead crane lifting hook and an overhead crane trolley, a reflection type photoelectric switch is arranged below the overhead crane trolley, and a reflection plate corresponding to the reflection type photoelectric switch is arranged at the top of the overhead crane lifting hook. According to the protection device and the protection method, material taking is simple, cost is low, the personal safety of operators and the safety of hoisted objects can be effectively protected, and the safety performance of hoisting equipment can be improved.
