The invention relates to a partitioned compressible suction cup lip and a suction cup including the same. The invention discloses a compressible lip edge for a suction cup. The lip has one or more sections in its engagement region, each section comprising a flow channel capable of forming a flow restriction together with a surface of an object to be engaged by the lip. The flow restrictions formed restrict airflow from the partitions, so that the suction cup provided with such a lip can maintain an overall high vacuum level despite pressure loss in one or some of the partitions. The invention further discloses a suction cup with the compressible lip edge.
