The method comprises the following steps: S1, calculating the residual power in a corresponding charging mode according to the working condition of locomotive operation; S2, calculating the total charging supply current; S3, calculating the maximum allowable charging total current of all traction storage battery branches; S4, comparing the charging supply total current with the maximum allowable charging total current of all traction storage battery branches; S5, if the total charging supply current meets the total current of all the traction storage battery branches, carrying out charging according to the maximum allowable charging current of each traction storage battery branch; and S6, if the total current of all the traction storage battery branches is not enough to meet the total current of all the traction storage battery branches, distributing the charging supply total current in proportion, and charging the traction storage batteries by all the traction storage battery branches according to the distributed charging current. According to the invention, the charging current can be reasonably distributed to each charging control branch, and rapid charging is realized.
