The invention provides an elevator traction machine which enables the assembly of an encoder not to expand the thickness of a whole machine, enables the thickness of the whole machine to be thin, reduces the installation space, enables the traction machine to be installed on the back face of a guide rail, and enables the space utilization rate of a hoistway to be higher. The elevator traction machine comprises a machine base, a stator assembly, a rotor assembly, an encoder assembly and a traction wheel. The encoder assembly comprises an encoder magnetic ring and an encoder controller. The encoder magnetic ring and the encoder controller are combined to form an integral encoder. The center of the machine base is provided with a center shaft protruding forwards, the machine base is further integrated with a stator installation ring annularly distributed on the periphery of the center shaft, an outer base body is arranged on the periphery of the stator installation ring, and a motor assembling cavity is formed between the inner wall of the outer base body and the circular ring face of the stator installation ring. The central shaft is sleeved with the rotor assembly through a bearing, and a rotor magnet yoke assembly is fixedly arranged at the rear end of the radial outer side of the rotor assembly.
