The method comprises the following steps that the amplitude is obtained according to the actual working arm length of the crane and the angle between the arm and the ground; according to the amplitude and the actual load of the crane, the actual load moment is obtained; and according to the actual load moment and the preset maximum load moment, whether the crane is overloaded or not is judged, and the preset maximum load moment represents the corresponding maximum load moment of the crane under the actual working arm length and the amplitude. The method is simple and effective, can greatly reduce the cost and complexity of overload detection of the crane, effectively protects all parts of the crane, ensures safe and stable operation of the crane, and is particularly suitable for small cranes with high cost requirements.
