This utilization method for an existing ship (1) includes: a step in which some tanks (3), out of a plurality of tanks (3), and intermediate hull sections (5C, 5D), including some of the hull in the bow-stern direction (Da) of the ship that has some of the tanks (3) provided therein, are cut out as tank units (31A, 31B), from an existing ship (1) having a hull having the plurality of tanks (3) arranged in the bow-stern direction (Da); and a step in which a new ship is produced by providing a bow-side ship hull section (5A) in a stern-side ship hull section (5B) after tank units (31A, 31B) have been cut out from the existing ship (1), said stern-side ship hull section including an engine room (2m) and being arranged further on the stern (2r) side than the intermediate hull sections (5C, 5D).
