The invention relates to a charging circuit (LS) for a vehicle-side stored electrical energy source (ES), comprising: an alternating current connector (WA), at least two smoothing capacitors (C1, C2), a configuration device (KV), and a rectifier (GR). The alternating current connector (WA) is connected to the configuration device (KV) via the rectifier (GR). The configuration device (KV) connects the rectifier (GR) to the smoothing capacitors (C1, C2). The configuration device (KV) is designed to connect to smoothing capacitors (C1, C2) to one another selectively in a parallel or series configuration. The alternating current connector has a neutral conductor connector (N). The neutral conductor connector is connected via a diode circuit (DS) to the configuration device (KV).
