The invention discloses an automatic starting control system and method for an escalator. The system comprises an entrance and exit camera, an escalator controller, a shielding door system, an industrial personal computer and an image analysis server, wherein the entrance and exit camera is used for transmitting the collected image information to the image analysis server; the image analysis server is used for analyzing whether a pedestrian enters and exits the station according to the image information; the escalator transmits the operation state information to the industrial personal computer; the shielding door system is used for transmitting shielding door opening and closing information to the industrial personal computer; and the industrial personal computer is used for sending a control command to the escalator controller according to the analysis result and the shielding door opening and closing information so as to control the operation of the escalator. According to the automatic starting control system and method for the escalator, the use requirements of the escalator are judged by analyzing the image information and the shielding door information, so that the escalatoris controlled in advance, and the balance between the safety and the energy conservation of the escalator is realized.
