To achieve a structure which is capable of supporting a slide bearing which slidably supports a rack shaft without sandwiching the bearing between two members in the axial direction and without any rattling in the axial direction relative to the rack housing. A rack housing (22) has a first angled recess surface (45) which angles toward the far side of the rack housing (22) in a radially outward direction and is located on the inside surface of an engaging recess (44) on the rack housing (22) open side of said engaging recess. A rack bush (47) has a first angled projection surface (55) which angles toward the far side of the rack housing (22) in a radially outward direction and is located on an outside surface which constitutes part of an engaging projection (51) and faces the first angledrecess surface (45). The first angled projection surface (55) presses in a radially outward direction against the first angled recess surface (45), and the other outside surface which constitutes part of the engaging projection (51) and is oriented toward the far side of the rack housing (22) presses in the axial direction against the other inside surface which constitutes part of the engaging recess (44) and is oriented toward the open side of the rack housing (22).
