The invention discloses an elevator without a machine room. The elevator comprises a lift car; the lift car comprises a car door; the car door serves as a part of the lift car; a car bottom wheel is arranged at the bottom of the lift car, and a first included angle is formed between the rotating axis of the car bottom wheel and the car door; a first car roof wheel is arranged at the top of a shaftwall and located on one side of the lift car; a traction machine is positioned in the middle or at the lower part of the shaft wall; a second car roof wheel is arranged at the top of the shaft wall and located on the rear side of the lift car; a counterweight is located on the rear side of the lift car and comprises a counterweight main body and a counterweight wheel; two ends of a traction steelwire rope are connected to the top of the side, away from the first car roof wheel, of the shaft wall; and the axes of the traction machine, the second car roof wheel and the counterweight wheel areparallel to one another, and the centers are located on the same straight line in the same projection plane. According to the elevator, The traction machine can be placed at any vertical position fromthe second car roof wheel to the bottom of a hoistway, and more positions where the traction machine can be placed are provided for the traction machine; and the height of a top layer is minimized to3.3 m, so that the method is suitable for buildings with low top layers.
