The invention relates to a brake disc assembly, and discloses an article including a structural core, one or more friction pads, and a plurality of elongate fasteners. The structural core includes twocore surfaces and a plurality of dimples extending between the core surfaces. Each friction pad includes a pad surface and a friction surface opposite to the pad surface. Each pad surface includes aflat pad surface configured to contact the core surface and a plurality of bosses extending from the first flat pad surface and including apertures. Each flat pad surface is at least about 50% of a surface area of the respective first pad surface and the respective second pad surface. The plurality of bosses are engaged with the plurality of dimples to position the respective first friction pads and the respective second friction pads relative to the structural core. The plurality of elongated fasteners pass through the holes of the corresponding bosses of the friction pad to fasten the friction pad to the structural core.
