The invention provides a high-speed maglev train braking system and method. A traction cut-off unit in the system sends a traction cut-off instruction to a short-circuit braking control unit. The short-circuit braking control unit sends a switch control signal to a stator switching station control unit according to the traction cut-off instruction. The stator switching station control unit controls a vacuum contactor in the first branch of a feeder cabinet to be switched off according to the switch control signal and controls a vacuum circuit breaker in the second branch of a short-circuit brake cabinet to be switched on. The second branch and a long stator winding in a long stator linear motor form a short-circuit brake loop. When the vacuum contactor in the first branch is disconnected and the vacuum circuit breaker in the second branch is closed, the short-circuit brake loop and a high-speed maglev train interact to generate brake force used for braking the high-speed maglev train.The high-speed maglev train braking system can replace a failure eddy current braking mode for braking, and the safety and reliability of high-speed maglev train braking are improved.
