The invention relates to a starting method of an engine and a hybrid power system. The engine starting method is used for the hybrid power system. The hybrid power system comprises an engine used forproviding power and a motor, and a cut-off clutch, a clutch device and a transmission. The cut-off clutch is disposed between the engine and the motor to selectively connect or disconnect power transmission of the engine. The clutch device is arranged between the motor and the transmission so as to selectively connect or disconnect power of the motor and/or power of the engine to the transmission.The starting method comprises the following steps that under the condition that preset conditions are met, the rotating speed of the motor is increased, and when the rotating speed of the motor is increased to a first correction rotating speed, the state of the clutch device is switched from a sliding abrasion state to an engaged state; and the state of the cut-off clutch is switched from the sliding abrasion state to the engaged state when the rotational speed of the engine reaches a second corrected rotational speed while the clutch device is in the engaged state.
