The invention discloses an expressway traffic state sensing system based on a wide area radar and belongs to the technical field of traffic state monitoring. The wide-area-radar-based highway trafficstate sensing system comprises a wide-area radar subsystem, a data transmission network and a central platform that are connected successively, wherein the wide-area radar subsystem is used for collecting traffic data and accessing a data transmission network, the data transmission network is used for transmitting the traffic data to the central platform, and the central platform is used for carrying out event detection, trajectory tracking, event prediction analysis, historical event statistics and equipment management of the traffic data. The system is advantaged in that problems that an existing traffic state sensing system excessively depends on hardware and network resources, timeliness is low, and road conditions cannot be sensed in time under severe weather conditions are solved.
