The invention relates to the technical field of automobile control, in particular to a method for controlling the maximum speed of a hybrid electric vehicle. The method comprises the following steps of: determining the limit state of the maximum speed; determining the limited vehicle speed of the vehicle; determining the limited power of the vehicle; determining the required driving power of the vehicle; and determining the target power of an engine according to the required driving power of the vehicle and the target power of the current power battery, and controlling the engine to reach thetarget power. The output power of the power battery and the output power of the engine are reasonably distributed, and the fuel economy is improved.
