The invention relates to an elevator monitoring method and an elevator brake disc monitoring system. The elevator monitoring method comprises the steps that a light beam generator emits test light beams, the test light beams irradiate the surface of a liquid membrane in an inclined mode, the light beams directly reflected by the surface of the liquid membrane are first light beams, the light beams penetrating out from the liquid membrane after penetrating through the liquid membrane and being reflected by the surface of a brake disc are second light beams, a detector receives the first light beams and the second light beams so as to obtain the position relation between the first light beams and the second light beams, the thickness of the liquid membrane can be obtained through calculation according to the position relation among the test light beams, the first light beams and the second light beams and the refraction characteristic of the liquid membrane, and the detector sends stopping signals or standby signals to an elevator when the thickness of the liquid membrane is greater than the preset pre-warning value. By monitoring the thickness of the liquid membrane on the surface of the elevator brake disc, the operation safety of the elevator can be guaranteed, and the test light beams do not damage the brake disc or influence normal operation of the brake disc.
